Riding Instructions

Before you ride with us, take some time to learn your riding requirements, get familiar with your moped controls, and learn how to ride.

Riding Requirements

1. By law, you must wear a helmet while driving your moped. A helmet is provided under the seat of your moped. If there are multiple helmets, please select the one that fits best. To open the seat of your moped simply insert the key and rotate it to the OPEN position.

2. You must have a valid, Class C driver's license. No motorcycle license is required to operate Roamer Rides mopeds.

Preparing to Ride

Before you start your adventure on your moped learn the controls and how to use them.

  • Key Switch

    • On: Turn the key to this position to drive your moped.

    • Off: Turn off your moped in this position

    • Open: Rotate the key counterclockwise to this position to open the saddle and access under-seat storage. Your helmet will be stored here for self-pickup.

    • Handlebar Lock: Push the key and rotate counterclockwise to this position to lock the steering handlebar.

  • BrakesFacing the dashboard, the rear brake is the lever located on the left handle - this controls your back wheel. The front brake is the lever located on the right handle - this controls the front wheel. To brake, apply pressure to the lever. It is good practice to use both brakes while slowing or stopping.

 

  • Turn SignalFacing the dashboard, the turning signal is located on the left handle. Push the switch to the left for the left signal. Push the switch to the right for the right signal. 

 

  • Mode Selector: Use the “+” and “-” buttons to cycle between Modes 1, 2, and 3. These modes regulate the speed of your moped. Mode 1 is slow, Mode 2 is medium, Mode 3 is fast.

  • HornFacing the dashboard, the horn is the red button located on the left handle. Push the button to sound the horn.

 

  • LightsFacing the dashboard, the headlight switch is located on the left handle. Your lights will automatically turn on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. Flip the switch up for normal operation, and flip the switch down for high beams. 

 

  • ThrottleFacing the dashboard, the throttle is located on the right handle. To accelerate, grip the right handle and slowly roll your wrist downward. To slow down, roll your wrist up while gripping the handle. It’s important to always roll off the throttle before you begin braking.

 

  • Engine Cutoff SwitchFacing the dashboard, the ignition switch is located on the right handle. Push the switch to the left for engine start. Push the switch to the right for engine stop (aka engine cut-off). 

 

  • Engine Start ButtonFacing the dashboard, the engine start button is the green button located on the right handle. Press the button to start the engine. A green light will appear on the dashboard indicating that the engine is on. 

Note: The ignition switch must be in the left position in order for this button to work and the engine to start.

  • Hazard Lights: Facing the dashboard, the hazard lights button is located on the right handle.

  • MirrorsRear view mirrors are located on both the left and right handle bars. Before riding, adjust your mirrors so you can adequately see what is behind you.

 

  • KickstandThe kickstand is used to keep the moped upright while you are not riding. Facing forward, it is located on the lower left-hand side of the moped, near your left foot. When the moped is not moving, place your right foot on the ground for balance. Using your left foot, press down on the kickstand until it is locked in the downward position. To retract the kickstand, lift and balance the moped so that no weight is on the kickstand. Using your left foot, kick the kickstand backwards until it has retracted flush against the moped body.

How to Ride

Before you ride, be sure to learn how to properly operate your Roamer Rides moped. Follow the instructions below to learn how!

1. Put your helmet on.

Put your helmet on and securely fasten the chin strap. Simply insert the buckle until you hear a "click". If your helmet uses a D-ring to secure the chin strap, follow the diagram to learn how.

2. Adjust your mirrors.

Keeping your kickstand down, straddle your moped with both feet on the ground. While seated, adjust your mirrors so you can see what is behind you.

3. Turn on your moped.

Insert the key into the ignition and rotate the key clockwise to the ON position.

Squeezing both the left- and right-hand brakes, stand up and lean your moped upright so that it is balancing on the tires and no longer resting on the kickstand.

4. Balance your moped.
5. Retract the kickstand.

Retract the kickstand by pushing it backwards with your foot.

6. Activate motor power.

Push the Engine Cutoff Switch to the left to activate motor power.

7. Start your moped.

To turn on your moped by pushing and briefly holding the green Engine Start button. You will see the green READY light appear on your dashboard.

Note: Your kickstand must be retracted in order to turn on your moped.

8. Select your speed.

Select the speed of your moped using the Mode Selector. Mode 1 is slow, Mode 2 is medium speed, and Mode 3 is fast. When riding for the first time, it is recommended to start in Mode 1.

9. Slowly roll on throttle.

With at least one foot on the ground, release the brakes and SLOWLY roll on the throttle to accelerate. When the moped has begun moving, bring both feet up onto the moped’s floorboard. To speed up, roll your wrist downward. To slow down, ease off the throttle by rolling your wrist upward.

10. Turn your moped.

To turn, first use your turn signal, then slow down by easing off the throttle, and if necessary, using the brakes. Turn your head in the direction of where you want to go and rotate the handlebar in the direction of your turn.

11. Stop your moped.

To stop, first ease off the throttle by rolling your right wrist upward, then slowly squeeze the left- and right-hand brakes until you come to a complete stop. After you have come to a stop, place one or both feet on the ground to keep the moped balanced and in an upright position.

12. Maintain your awareness.

Be sure to maintain your awareness and always keep a safe distance between you and other vehicles while riding. Enjoy your adventure and have fun!

How to Park and Lockup

1. Push kickstand down.

After you have come to a complete stop in an appropriate parking location, place your right foot on the ground for balance. Using your left foot, push the kickstand downwards until it is in the locked position

2. Lean onto the kickstand.

Turn the handlebar to the left and slowly lean the moped to the left until the weight of the moped is on the kickstand.

3. Deactivate your moped.

Press the Ignition Switch to the right (engine cutoff).

4. Turn off your moped.

Rotate the key to the OFF position.

5. Lock the handlebars.

Press the key inward and rotate it counterclockwise to the Handlebar Lock position and remove the key from the ignition (this helps prevent theft).

6. Step off to the left.

Step off the left-hand side of the moped.
